Hi and welcome to the first article of Think BIG on the web, a blog created to assist your learning and understanding of cutting-edge online business techniques and website best practices. This blog is operated by Future Medium, a Tasmanian Web Design and Development Company in Australia. My name is Glen Johnson and I’ve been in the web industry for over 10 years. I look forward to hearing comments back on our thoughts. My colleagues and I will do our best to keep these topics motivational and engaging. Feel free to post comments and questions.

The intent of these first few posts is to assist any person contributing to their businesses website in a professional capacity. Whether it be preparing an article for a blog, to coordinating multiple resources required to manage the ongoing success of a compressive website. Each article will address a key topic, establishing a foundation of knowledge for subsequent articles. The use of industry jargon will be kept to a minimum with the thrust of the series focused on delivering practical advice that you can take away and use. By the end of the series you should be confident enough to have the base knowledge to coordinate any size web project from a website makeover to planning your digital strategy.

Simply having a website no longer represents an online competitive advantage, it is a competitive necessity. Websites have become much more than corporate brochures showcasing products and services integrated with simple e-commerce functionality and a “buy now” button.

In today’s competitive landscape an effective website performs many functions and roles. It is a fundamental extension of a business, providing improved efficiencies, acts as a 24/7 sales assistant, and is a powerful marketing and communications tool. This series will increase your understanding of these key areas enabling you to get the most from your website.

I have discussed the concept of this series with numerous business people, clients and non-clients alike and the results have been overwhelmingly positive. Almost every conversation has lead to a short pause, followed by an excited explosion of topic suggestions that people would like to learn more about.
